General Information
Geographical Location
Tenerife is an Island which forms part of the Canary Island Archipelago, and is located off the north west coast
of Africa. The island is a Spanish province, so governed by Spanish law.
Weather and Climate
Tenerife is an island of great beauty and diversity and is often referred to as the island of eternal spring due to
its temperate climate. You will find the year round average temperature to be between 19ºC(66ºF) and 23ºC(73ºF), rarely
dropping below 14ºC(57ºF) degrees in winter or above 30ºC(86ºF) in summer. The temperate climate on the island can be attributed
to the warming winds which flow in from the North East, and the cooler Atlantic waters to the north of the island. The island
is also sometimes referred to as the island of all seasons, due its different climatic regions. Many different micro
climates exist on the island. A typical example is how in winter you can spend the morning soaking up the sun on the
beach, then in the afternoon be snow ball fighting on the snow capped mountain. Check the
weather forecast the next five days.
Beaches
Our island is blessed with numerous beaches, of which some have natural black volcanic sand, and some have imported white
sand. One of largest beaches on the island is El Medano which comprises of naturally occurring white sand. This beach
is very popular with water sport enthusiasts as you can take part in a number of water sport activities. In general, which
ever beach you visit, you will find one form of water sport or another. The majority of beaches have sun beds and sun shades
for hire, and the popular beaches nearly always have lifeguards and first aid facilities. Click here for more information on beaches.
Mount Teide
The island plays host to the highest mountain in Spain known as mount Teide. This is also an active volcano, but fear not as
it has not erupted since 1909. Mount Teide is a very popular attraction for visiting tourists, and is well worth a trip
if you visit the island. You can travel to base of the volcano where you will find a cable car which will take you to the
summit. On a clear day you can see all other Canary Islands by walking around the peak of the volcano. You can see a
picture of Mount Teide top right. On your flight into the island, you can usually get a good view of the volcano as the plane
is descending. You can visit Mount Teide by booking yourself on one of the many excursions which visits the volcano, but
we think that travelling to the mountain by car is the best option.
Accommodation
Accommodation on the island is diverse, ranging from self catering to luxury hotels and every other type of accommodation in
between. People looking for accommodation can either book with their travel agents, or can book holiday lets direct with
the owner of the accommodation. Many people purchase a property in Tenerife to specifically to rent out to holiday makers.
A holiday property rented out for this purpose will usually be furnished to a reasonable standard. Lets face it, if they want
repeat business from you, or want business by word of mouth, then keeping their property up to spec is in their interest.
